A machinist by trade, Tim Sr. brings an immense amount of practical ingenuity and know-how to any endeavor he is a part of. After the Late Model Division was cancelled in 2006 at Lorain County Speedway, his driver and nephew Nick saw an opportunity to drive for a team from Michigan. Tim Sr. took a break from his efforts to help his nephew get a start with his new racing endeavor. In 2009, Tim Sr. saw an opportunity to give his son a chance to break in to the racing world, when he purchased a Modified. The team is currently learning how the car reacts to changes and setups and Tim Jr. is making promising steps from behind the wheel.
Tim Jr., now a Mechanical Engineer, started working on his father’s racecars as soon as he was old enough to go into the pits. At home he started out doing tedious jobs such as vacuuming out the interior and cleaning the body of the car. As time went on he took on more responsibility and learned how to change the oil and gear sets, as well as keep up the general chassis maintenance. During summer breaks, Tim Jr. would devote all of his free time to making sure the car was ready for the upcoming weekend’s race. Tim Jr. also raced karts in the Briggs Sr. Animal division in the off seasons. Tim Jr. attended the University of Akron and became an integral member of the Formula SAE team. He became the team’s primary driver and led them to finishing 10th overall in the world competition standings. Tim Sr. and Tim Jr., always receive unyielding support from Tim Sr.’s brothers, Tony and Marty. Tony’s son, Nick, is also a large part of Tim Gullatta Motorsports. Nick drove for the team for the last 7 seasons and is a wealth of racing knowledge. He knows the in and outs of the track and is always teaching Tim Jr. the best driving techniques and skills for success.
