It's been a busy season and Tim Gullatta Motorsports made a lot of progress, racing our first full season in many years. With 5 heat race wins and several top-10 feature race finishes, this season was very productive!

Opening night saw Tim Gullatta Motorsports earn their first win in the heat race. Running in the top 10 most of the feature Tim Jr. had to pull off the track with a few laps to go due to a flat LR Tire. All-in-all though, it was a great start to the season.
Week two of racing started out with the racecar being a bit finicky to drive--- but by the time the feature rolled around Jimmy, Frank, Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. felt they had made some improvements to the chassis setup and Tim Jr. agreed. Starting on the pole Tim Jr. lead 6 laps of the feature race and wound up finishing 4th place overall.

With opening night being cancelled due to weather last weekend, Tim Gullatta Motorsports and the number 16 modified will be racing this weekend at Lorain County Speedway for opening night! Please come out and support us --- the weather is supposed to be beautiful.

With nice weather fast-approaching, Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. have prepared the modified for practice at Lorain County Speedway on Sunday, April 14th. The first race of the season is Saturday, April 20th and the guys are ready!

Coming off of a rain-out the week prior, Tim Gullatta Motorsports was eager to race this past Saturday. They were trying different setups when the rain came, and they did not get to test the last round of changes they made that previous week. Off the trailer with the car setup as it was before the rain out, they were pleased with the overall speed and handling of the car. They changed a few things and tweaked the setup a bit more in practice and by the time qualifying came Tim Jr. really liked the balance of the car; and he was able to get all of that Michael's power to "hook up" finally. With a personal best qualifying lap of 15.380, and 27 modifieds present for the last race of the season, the number 16 modified landed 11th fastest. Tim Sr. and Jimmy Steinbrick were pleased with the car and decided to leave it as it was for the heat race. There were three heat races so that put us mid-pack in the middle heat (not the fast heat, but not the slow heat either).
In the feature Tim Jr. started 11th on the outside. This put the number 16 ahead of most of the field and behind the top 10 in qualifying. The top 2 in point standings were within 6 points of eachother, on top of the fact it was the last race of the season. This was expected to be a very hairy race---and it was! There was an invert of 10 so Tim Jr. had very fast cars to follow to the front. There was a lot of racing action in the feature and Tim did his best avoiding several wrecks. Hanging on to position and driving a smart race, he made his way all the way up to fourth halfway through the race. He restarted on the outside a few times which proved to be futile, as there was no grip in the second groove. He held on as best he could and wound up finishing where he started in 11th place, and with a racecar that was in one piece (not an easy task this night).

With Tim Sr's new Michael's Racing Engine bolted in the team has had 2 very good outings. With improvements on the stop watch continuing, Tim Jr. qualified a 15.46 and with an eventful feature race, ran 6th place before handling issues squirmed the car out of the racing groove allowing a few cars to get by him. He held on for 8th place out of 20 cars. With 2 weeks left in the racing season they are hopeful and excited to finish off, happy with all of their progress this season.

With a very busy 2 weeks of straightening body panels and fixing bent parts they finished up Saturday morning in time to make the second session of hot laps. The weather didn't look good, as it was raining in Parma most of the morning, but after a look at the radar they loaded up and headed to Lorain. The car was tight in and off the turns in practice so changes were made and Tim Jr. managed a 15.70 in qualifying, a tenth slower than the previous outing. The team just ran out of time on the setup of the car and missed a few things. In the heat race they over-adjusted and the car was too loose. For the feature they started scratch because they weren't sure how the car was going to handle and they hung on in the back of the pack, passing a few cars for a 10th place finish. All-in-all a good outing, and with the help of Tony Gullatta and Tim Sr. only one weekend of racing was missed. Thanks to Frank Kershner and his granddaughter for cheering the team on in the stands this weekend.
July 17, 2012
With the sweltering days that have been July, Tim Gullatta Motorsports has been making great strides at the race track this summer. Over three weekends, with Tim Jr. behind the wheel, the team has been able to knock a tenth of a second off his qualifying times each weekend. This past weekend, July 14th, the team has gotten the setup as competitive as it's been yet! Qualifying a 15.60, with the invert, Tim Jr. started outside pole in the Heat Race and was able to race on the outside for a 3rd place finish, just missing 2nd place by a bumper. In the feature he had the same starting spot and was running on the outside of the lead car when he got crossed up with a car on the inside of him. There is some body damage, but all in all it has been a good, progressive season so far. Tim Sr. and the rest of the crew are pleased.
